Cancer Care & Prevention

The Center’s Cancer Care programming works in partnership with Tribal communities to develop, evaluate and disseminate community-based, culturally relevant interventions to improve the continuum of cancer care. Native American communities face significant disparities in all aspects of the continuum of cancer care, including limited culturally relevant educational materials, lower rates of cancer screening, barriers to accessing treatment, and higher rates of morbidity and mortality related to cancer. There is an urgent need to develop strengths-based interventions rooted in local culture to address these disparities and improve health outcomes for Native American families. The Center engages community members, traditional practitioners and local providers in developing culturally relevant, sustainable interventions to address disparities in cancer screening, treatment and outcomes.
