James Betoney


Research Program Assistant


James Betoney is Dine’ of the Bitterwater clan and born for the Manygoats clan. He is from Tonalea, Arizona, a husband and father, and an advocate for Native youth and adults.  

He has over 20 years' experience working as a minister/clergy with local churches on the reservation and 12 years' experience working with youth with BIE dormitories. On the platform of social media and at in-person seminars he speaks to those impacted by social challenges including, alcoholism, drug abuse, depression, suicide, bullying in schools, and cellphone/technology addiction.  

He also offers his expertise in Conflict Resolution/De-escalation, Basic Counseling, Parenting Skills, Child Supervision and Child Discipline. James is now looking forward to serving under the umbrella of John Hopkins University with the new Azhe’é Bidziil (Strong Fathers) program as a Research Program Assistant.
