The mission of the Indian Health Service (IHS) is to raise the health status of the American Indian and Alaska Native people to the highest possible level. To carry out this mission, the IHS provides comprehensive primary health care and disease prevention services.  Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health has had a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IHS since 1991 designed to ensure and strengthen collaboration between the two entities.  The Center and IHS are currently collaborating in education and training of Native peoples, research, consultation/technical assistance to tribes, capacity building, direct services, and sharing lessons learned with indigenous communities around the world.
