Recognizing that physical health and financial health are inextricably linked, the Center partnered with Barclays Bank to implement and evaluate a community-based positive youth development intervention. “Arrowhead Business Group” teaches adolescents business knowledge and skills, resilience and self-efficacy we well as offers ongoing support and mentorship to help youth stay in school and launch their own businesses. The project works closely with the White Mountain Apache Nation in Arizona. With consultation by community stakeholders to infuse cultural strengths, and Barclays for its financial expertise the Center designed a 16-lesson curriculum package that is administered during a residential camp and hands-on workshops by Apache paraprofessionals trained and employed by the Center. The intervention was designed to be strengths-based, enhance adolescent’s connection to school and caring adults and promote mental health and well-being. In partnership with Barclays Bank, ‘Arrowhead Business Group’ aims to be a model for under-resourced populations to address poverty and unemployment through capacity building and community health.
